What Does Nitrogen Do?
Nitrogen is one of the 3 main macronutrients needed for healthy plant growth. It is found in healthy soils and provides plants with the energy to grow and produce healthy fruit and vegetables. Part of the chlorophyll molecule, nitrogen gives plants their green colouration and also helps in the process of photosynthesis.
Symptoms Of Nitrogen Deficiency:
The main symptoms of nitrogen deficiency in plants is poor plant growth resulting in spindly, yellow plants and yellow leaves which occasionally with a pink tint.
Control:
To remedy the problem, use a fertiliser with a high nitrogen content. When using a fertiliser with a high amount of nitrogen it is recommended to use a slow release formula to limit the amount of nitrogen lost to the atmosphere and reduce the sudden surge of growth usually associated with high nitrogen products.
We recommend using a slow release fertilser with a high nitrogen content, such as ProloNg 46-0-0.
