NEW Drone Training 19th November 24
Agrigem is now offering CAA accredited UAS Spraying and Spreading training - delivered by Lantra-qualified drone instructors.
Open to anyone with an interest in the advantages and efficiencies of drone spraying and spreading, the course runs monthly from January and provides participants with:
- CAA Approved General Visual Line of Sight Qualification
- LANTRA Approved Safe use of Pesticides Certification
- LANTRA UAS Spraying and Spreading Certification
- Hands on maintenance and flight Planning
Spraying and spreading using drones is reshaping the way the agriculture and forestry sectors are managing plant protection and seeding; vastly reducing the time and costs involved, while improving safety, precision and efficiency.
Interest in unmanned technologies is growing rapidly among plant protection specialists working in remote or challenging environments, and demand for education and training is high.
The training team includes those responsible for educating the Police and Fire Service in drone flight, and renowned specialist agricultural and amenity assessors.
To enrol, participants should have a minimum two hours’ flight time (flying any drone). These hours do not need to be logged with the CAA and Agrigem encourages those who do not have this flight time to get in touch as it may be possible to incorporate the time into the course.
Participants do not need to have an A2CofC qualification or a GVC certificate, although some pre-learning is required prior to the course if a GVC certificate is not held.

New Product for Hylobius – Coming Soon 11th September 24
Good news for the forestry sector – a new product to address the serious issues of Hylobius abietis (large pine weevil) is nearly here.
Six years in development, the new product - code-named A23473A - has been shown to be highly effective in reducing levels of Hylobius damage.
Extensive development, research initiatives, and registration trials have created a strong technical understanding of its role in an integrated control strategy for Hylobius.
The UK registration process is due for evaluation in November 2024, with the launch of an easy-to-use liquid-formulation product following the outcome of the regulatory process.

Oak Processionary Moth Warning 25th June 24
June marks the start of a high-risk period for oaks, with the arrival of non-native oak processionary moths.
The caterpillars hatch in spring and go through several instars, moving down the tree as they grow - feeding on the leaves, weakening and harming tree growth and leaving oaks exposed to stress and disease. The Forestry Commission has issued a public warning to avoid contact and report sightings. Get in touch to discuss caterpillar control, damage mitigation and prevention strategies.
A Bumper Year for Box Moth? 25th June 24
The RHS has issued a warning that 2024 could be a bumper year for box tree caterpillar moth, with five times the number of reports of the insects compared with the same period last year.
Lauren advises to inspect plants in early spring for signs of eggs underneath leaves. She says: “Remove caterpillars by hand where possible to avoid spread and keep an eye on the temperature – caterpillars will start to transform into moths and lay even more eggs when temperatures climb. Use a box tree moth trap to measure extent of infestation. DiPel and Decis Protech can be effective in controlling the caterpillars."
