Frequently Asked Questions

What is Thrust used for?

Thrust is a powerful selective herbicide designed to control tough broad-leaved weeds like thistles, docks, and especially ragwort in grassland and paddocks. It contains two active ingredients (2,4-D and dicamba) for a dual-action kill.

Does Thrust kill grass?

No, it is a selective weed killer that targets weeds while leaving established grass unharmed. This makes it ideal for improving the quality of grazing land and amenity turf.

Is it effective against ragwort?

Yes, Thrust is one of the most effective products for controlling ragwort. For the best results, it should be applied when the ragwort is at the rosette stage before it begins to flower.

How long must livestock stay off the treated area?

Livestock should be excluded for at least 14 days after application. If poisonous weeds like Ragwort are present, keep animals away until the weeds have completely died and become unpalatable.

What is the dilution rate for a knapsack sprayer?

The recommended rate for spot treatment is generally 100ml of Thrust per 10 litres of water. Always check the label for specific rates based on the weed species you are targeting.

When is the best time to apply Thrust?

Apply it when weeds are actively growing, usually between April and September. Avoid spraying during periods of drought, frost, or when the weeds have already gone to seed.

Can I use Thrust on a newly sown lawn?

No, you should only use it on established grass that is at least 12 months old. Applying it to young or newly seeded grass can cause significant damage to the lawn.

Is Thrust rain-fast quickly?

You should aim for at least 6 hours of dry weather after application to ensure the chemical is fully absorbed. If it rains too soon, the effectiveness of the treatment may be reduced.

Can I use the grass clippings for mulch?

Do not use clippings from the first few mowings after treatment for mulch or compost. The active ingredients can persist in the organic matter and harm sensitive garden plants like tomatoes or roses.

Do I need a professional certificate to use this?

Yes, Thrust is a professional-use herbicide and requires a PA1/PA6 qualification for legal application. Always wear appropriate PPE, including gloves and a face shield, when handling the concentrate.
